There are a range of international schools located in the country of Turkey. The majority of them are Preschools, Primary and Secondary Schools. Additional there are six universities (three of them are public) that offer courses in English. Courses in German and French are also available at some establishments for higher education.
The Higher Education Council is regulating most universities in Turkey without the involvement of political affiliation or the government. Education in general is compulsory for children from the ages 6 to 14.
Istanbul, the largest city in the country, and its surroundings is the area in which most international schools up to Secondary School can be found. The British International School, the Bosphorus International Preschool, the Atolye Preschool, the Yildizlar Collage and the Istanbul International School are only some of them. Native English speaking teachers as well as the British curriculum are offered in most of them.
Ankara is another location where international schools can be found. One of them is the Oasis International School which teaches the American curriculum from the grades one to twelve (Elementary and Secondary School).
Generally Turkey has an excellent national education system which is supervised by the state. In state schools the primary education is free and Turkish is taught as the mother tongue, except in institutions which have a specially license.
