The weather and climate in Turkey offers something for everyone. From warm summer months in the south west of the country which invite you to go for a refreshing swim to cold winter months in the northern regions of Turkey in which one can go skiing and practise other winter sports.
There are three different types of climate in Turkey . The first one can be found in the Black Sea area, the second one is the one in the heart of the country and the third is the Mediterranean climate. It is hard to generalise the temperatures in the country as they range from -20°C in the winter (in the east of the country) to 38°C in the summer (in most costal areas in the south).
July and August are the hottest months of the year and many tourists come to Turkey to spend their holiday here and to enjoy the pleasant sea temperatures which are never colder than 16°C during the season. Depending on where you are, the average rainfall varies from 580 to 2,200 millimeters per year. Most of the precipitations are recorded in the east of the Black Sea region.
Due to its high altitude, it is also not unusual to find a snow-covered ground for over 120 days per year on the Anatolian Plateau, in the heart of Turkey . This is also the area in the country that is experiencing the greatest variation in temperature between daytime and nighttime.
Generally it can be said that the south and west of Turkey has hot summers and mild winters; the centre of the country is warm in the summer months and cold in the winter months and the east is experiencing short and mild summers as well as long and cold winters.
